Research Promotion
Since 1960, ASHRAE has sponsored research studies at universities and research firms. The results of these studies have been used to prepare chapters in the ASHRAE Handbook series; as foundational material in special publications; in the formulation of standards; to train university students as they prepare for service in the HVAC&R industry; and to spread the knowledge gained through presentation at Society Conferences and publication in ASHRAE Transactions or conference proceedings.
What is the rp campaign?
The RP Campaign is an annual fundraising campaign benefiting the funding of numerous ASHRAE Programs. These programs include:
• ASHRAE Research
• ASHRAE Scholarships for undergraduate students
• ASHRAE Learning Institute (ALI) development of new courses & materials
• Graduate Research Projects (Grants-in-Aid)
• Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) Leadership Training
• Permanently endowed support to all the above programs
Research Goal: $11,000
This year, the bar has been set at $11,000. We are excited to reach, and hopefully surpass, this milestone. Your generosity directly supports ASHRAE’s mission to advance research, innovation, and the future of our industry. ASHRAE Research Donations are Tax Deductible:
ASHRAE is qualified as a 501(c)(3) organization under the U.S. tax code, and investments in ASHRAE research are exempt from U.S. taxes. Similarly, Canadian investments are kept and spent in Canada on ASHRAE research projects. This permits Canadians carrying on business in Canada to claim their investments under section 37(1) on their Federal tax returns.

The RP Campaign is overseen by the RP Committee, a standing ASHRAE Committee. The RP Committee manages and supports both the Society-level fundraising and Chapter-level fundraising of the RP Campaign. Traditionally supporting just research, the RP Campaign was expanded 10 years ago to include support of Education & ALI, Endowed Research through ASHRAE Foundation, YEA programs, ASHRAE Scholarships, and the General/Unrestricted fund. Research, the backbone of ASHRAE, remains the primary fund of the program with over $2 million raised for this program annually.
