GAC

What is the GAC?

The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) is responsible for organizing ASHRAE members to educate local, state, provincial, and national government bodies and officials in areas of interest to ASHRAE members, and to promote effective cooperation between ASHRAE members and government.

1. Advocate - Promote ASHRAE's Public Policy Priorities in government. Encourage energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and public safety.

2. Educate - Reach out to public officials and introduce them to ASHRAE as a resource in public policy.

3. Inform - Keep all members informed of the latest code and upcoming bills that will affect them.

2026 Government Outreach Day

The CA Government Outreach Day is scheduled for April 27th! Please reach out to our GAC Chair if you are interested in attending.

2025 Government Outreach Day

On March 18th, ASHRAE chapter members from around the state attended the Government Outreach Day in Sacramento. The event aims to foster meaningful dialogue between the HVAC&R industry professionals and policymakers. Engagement in these discussions helps ASHRAE bridge the gap between technical expertise and legislative frameworks, furthering our mission to create a more sustainable future.

Thank you again to all of the members who volunteered for the event! We would like to extend an extra thank you to the Sacramento Chapter and Emily Porcari for organizing and leading the event.

2024 Government Outreach Day

On April 23rd 2024, chairs representing the Sacramento Valley, San Francisco, San Diego, and San Jose Chapters met at the state capitol to attend ASHRAE's Government Outreach Day event. We attended 13 meetings where we introduced ASHRAE and advocated on behalf of the organization to help with informed policy making by leveraging the library of standards and research documents built via consensus-based research. We would like to extend an extra thank you Jacob Karson for heading the event.
